Marshall Burns Lloyd (1858-1927)
An American of English parents, Marshall Burns Lloyd was obsessed with manufacturing and weaving processes, and a prolific inventor. He was successful with designing machines to automate the production of wicker chairs, then thought he could do better. As a result he designed the innovative steel wire and Kraft paper fabric which bears his name - Lloyd Loom furniture was born. First used to make baby carriages, the process has proved flexible enough to make a wide range of elegant and durable furniture, and has become a style icon. Chosen by many famous institutions and individuals the world over for its quality, refined elegance and its durability. His legacy continues.
